"Until we bring true Swarajya for every citizen, we will not have respite": Sonia Gandhi

Congress President Sonia Gandhi was in Mumbai today to inaugurate Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan, the party head quarter in the city. Addressing the party workers on this occasion, Congress President recalled the role of the state in freedom movement as well as in many social reform movements. She said, "You people well know the relation of Congress with Mumbai. It is the city where Congress was formed and Mahatma Gandhi called for independence in 1942." She further said that in Mumbai itself, Congress' centenary ceremony was inaugurated by Rajiv Gandhi who pushed the idea of taking the country into twenty first century. Congress President said, "Rajivji worked hard to fulfill the dream of twenty first century, especially for the poor and weaker sections of the society and now we are getting the benefits of those policies."

Mentioning the various schemes of the UPA government she said that the government is working for the welfare of common man and people are getting benefitted from these schemes. "This is the prime cause for which we got huge mandate in recent Loksabha election, first time after 1991," she said. She praised the work of Maharashtra government for putting attention on the development of backward regions of the state. She said, "The government of Maharashtra has also waived loans of the farmers along with the loan waiver scheme of the central government and working tirelessly for the welfare of the people."

Congress President said that Mumbai is the pride of India and one of the biggest cities of the world. She said that the government of Maharashtra is putting its best efforts to better the infrastructure of this city. She said. "You people know that we have to do a lot of development work. Not only in Maharashtra or Mumbai, but all around the country, we have many challenges to face and we are determined to face them. Until we bring the true Swarajya in the life of every citizen we will not have respite"

She said that this day was a historical one for all Congress members to take a vow to serve the people; to take the schemes and policies of Congress to the people. She thanked Mumbai Congress President and his colleagues for bringing up Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan in the city. " I express my thanks to the people of Mumbai and Maharashtra for their overwhelming support in the recent Loksabha election and hope to get the similar support in the coming assembly poll," she said.

She concluded her speech by thanking all Congress workers for their efforts to popularize the schemes and works of the party She hoped similar enthusiasm from the workers in assembly election.
