This summer is seeing a surprisingly large amount of quality titles on all major consoles. It's a bumper crop of video games in a season where I usually play some crappy movie tie-in, just because it was the only thing out. And it is this great string of games that makes the Iron Man 3 so much more of a let down. It is a mediocre game that you should not waste time when you could be playing something awesome.
Iron Man 3 for Wii and PSP is developed by High Voltage Software, and looks to use the engine for The Conduit. Much like the previous games the story is separate from the film, though it's hard to tell if it's supposed to take place after the movie or if it's just an original story. Not so much because the story is told of cardboard cutouts of movie actors. What makes it funnier is that they sometimes solid game models (Did Scarlett Johansson did not approve her figure?) And it clashes with realistic images of the characters.

The game is very basic. Iron Man runs through the levels shooting everyone he sees on his way to a goal. Usually this is a computer terminal which he has to hack. Sometimes there is a boss (which is cool because it is often a classic Iron Man villain as the Crimson Dynamo) and ol 'Shell Head has to defeat him.
On Wii, you need players Nunchuk to run around, and the Wii Remote to aim. The A button fires primary weapon and the B button is not secondary (which can be switched between different types of missiles and lasers). The PSP version uses the analog stick to move and buttons to aim, the traditional clunky interface. The difference between the games is night and day. It does not make either more difficult because there is a lock on the mechanic, but man has the PSP version feels wonky. Plus, I can not change my control scheme, so I could not make the analog stick aim and just use the buttons as WASD controls, which would have been much better.
Iron Man 3 is not terrible, but it rarely gets interesting. It's fun to blow up tanks and trucks, and Iron Man have all powers as his repulsor shot and his unibeam laser. But the whole game feels repetitive. You can see the same enemies again and again, and although they have more guns and more armor as you go, the gameplay remains the same. The PSP version has even fewer guys than Wii games, so a lot of times areas just seem empty because there is no artillery trucks rolling up and dumping out the bad guys.
Boss battles are the highlight of the game because they require the player to be more strategic. Although normally only requires focusing on specific points on the boss. They are usually a kind of giant robot itself, so the level of play increases, making it feel more like a superhero game.
Ultimately, even the boss battles can not save Iron Man 2 And it feels like Iron Man 3 should have co-op. I can choose to play as War Machine and upgrade him too but I never get to experience them teamed up to kick ass like they did in the movie. I just get one or the other.
