There are three main programs that most of the institutes offer to full fill the requirement of a registered nurse. Firstly there is a 4 year bachelor degree known as BSN (bachelor in Nursing). This degree is a comprehensive study of nursing theory and research. Secondly there is an associate degree which can be completed in two years. Most of the people who want to start their career as a registered nurse take this course for their training. Thirdly you can also join diploma program.There are two basic methods of getting the above mentioned trainings. Firstly you can join a school or college which is offering these courses; you may easily locate these institutes in your city or State. There are many schools and colleges offering these Registered Nurse training programs. Red Cross is a very well reputed institute which is offering its courses in many cities. It is advised that before taking admission in any institute, you must check its approval with the state's board of nursing. Secondly you can also join these programs on the internet as there are many online schools and you can take admission in any online school after checking its official approval with the state's board of nursing. After completing your registered nurse training course, you will be required to take an exam called NCLEX-RN. This exam is conducted by various nursing associations all over the country. The nursing certification is not a must to work as a registered nurse and there are several registered nurses who do not have this certification but it is very important to get your certification because now days, employers only hire certified nursing staff. Registered nurses work for five shifts every week with each shift of 8 hours. They might also have to work on weekends, holidays and in overnight shifts. A registered nurse can also work in a nursing home or may also work as a home health aide. They usually earn at a high pay scale and usually can earn up to 75000 dollars every year.
