The Metropolitan Region of Recife is the major industrial zone of Pernambuco and provides investment services in Brazil, with over 52,500 business enterprises, is the most important commercial center of the North/Northeastern region of Brazil.

Recife's Good Transport Network:
Recife has a well-developed transport network with thoughtfully designed roadways and railways. The Guararapes International Airport, also called the Gilberto Freyre International Airport, connects the region to different nations. This airport has the longest runway (3,305 meters) in the entire Northeast region.
Once completed, Recife Metro will be the second largest metro in Brazil, second only to Sao Paulo. The Metro system integrates with numerous bus lines that are connected to the bus/metro integration terminals, including Joana Bezerra and Barro stations. The Recife Metro system measures 39.5 km in length and consists of 28 stations, 11 of which are integrated with buses.
The well-developed highway roads connect Recife to other major Brazilian cities.
Recife's Information Technology Industry:
Recife has a well-developed IT industry. The city has a whole area dedicated to IT-related activities. This area, called "Porto Digital," accommodates over 90 companies and more than 3,000 high tech jobs. Established in July 2000, Porto Digital has attracted many investments, generating approx. R$10 billion (Brazilian Reals) per year. It exports technology to countries such as Japan and China. Software manufacturing is its major activity. The Porto Digital cluster includes small and medium companies and also Multinational Companies (MNCs) such as Samsung, Motorola, Sun Microsystems and Del. Microsoft and IBM have their regional headquarters based in Recife. Prominent developments in this local cluster include solutions in outsourcing, information security, biometry, mobility/Wi-Fi, IT infrastructure, games and distance education and also web-based solutions.
