Google has reorganized its senior management structure

Google has reorganized its senior management structure to align its key product efforts under a single senior manager, one per group.

The move, reported Thursday night byThe Los Angeles Times, means that Google's key initiatives now have a specific leader in place.

The executives leading the way for Google now include: Andy Rubin, now senior vice president of mobile; Vic Gundotra, senior vice president of social; Sundar Pichai, senior vice president of Chrome and ChromeOS; Salar Kamangar, senior vice president of YouTube and video; Alan Eustace, senior vice president of search; and Susan Wojcicki, who is now senior vice president of ads. Jeff Huber, also a senior vice president, is now in charge of Commerce and Local after theapproval of the Google-ITA deal.

A Google spokesman confirmed that Google had made a management change, but would not confirm the names and titles of the individual Hp pavilion dv4 batteryleaders. The spokesman said that "changes in the engineering and product groups" were a direct result of theascent of Larry Page to the role of chief executive, which occured Monday. The individual product groups will not be formal business units, which would have their own profit and loss statements.

What does this mean for consumers? If nothing else, Google has made its priorities clear: mobile, search, social, video, ads, and local/commerce, plus Chrome.

In part, it also means thatcomments made by mobile chief Andy Rubin on Android's openness this week should be considered gospel, and not the musings of a lower-level executive.

"We don't believe in a 'one size fits all' solution," Rubin wrote. "Miraculously, we are seeing the platform take on new use cases, features and form factors as it's being introduced in new categories and regions while still remaining consistent and compatible for third party applications."

So, whether you believe in Android truly being "open," it would appear that Rubin will be the one deciding its fate.

The move also would seem to give Gundotra pride of place amid the new hierarchy.According to a report, about a quarter of the "multiplier" attached to each Google employee's annual bonus is now attached to Google's social strategy, and how successful it is. (The amount of the multiplier is determined by Google itself). A Google Hp pavilion dv5 Batteries spokesman declined to comment on matters of compensation.

Google, of course, has unfortunately virtually failed in every attempt at a social strategy, save for Orkut's success in Brazil. It remains to be seen how successful the company's"+1" initiative is.

Another question: where is Marissa Mayer? Mayer, one of the public faces of the company, promoted from search to local last October. Her most recent role wasplaying a rather gushing host to Lady Gagawhen she stopped by the Google campus.

Huber's appointment, however, would seem to place Mayer in a secondary role behind Huber, who most recently was senior vice president of engineering at Google Hp pavilion dv6 battery ad now will serve in a product position.
