For those who never do scanning, it can be a confusing activity to do. You do not need to be confused. The following is presented some of the simple and practical tips you can do for scanning an image.

The first thing you should do is to turn your scanner on and boot your computer up. If you want to scan but your scanner is off, you have to shut down your computer first. Turn on the scanner and then reboot your computer. The scanner cannot be turned on if your computer is running.

If you use Windows program, click on the "Start" then choose "Program" and navigate your cursor to "paper port" to click it. It is the fundamental scanning software which is available along with most of HP flatbed scanners.

Lift the lid of your scanner and set your image face down on the top of the scanner glass. Line the image up by using the green arrow which appears in the upper right-hand corner. Then, put the lid down.

Then, click the "Scan" button on the icon toolbar. It is located on the second from the left. Then the scanner will automatically produce the preview of the image with the black box around. Further, select the image you want to scan by locating you cursor over any one side of the black box around it and you will have a double-headed arrow. Left click and drag the line to the side you want your image to be. Do it to another line so that you can get the final image you want.

Once you have got the selected part of the image, click on the "Final" button at the bottom part of the Window. Your image will be rescanned by the scanner. After it has already finished all the steps, it will locate the thumbnail image on your desktop.

If you want to see the final image in full size, double click on it and your screen will display it in the new window. The final thing you have to do is to save it.
