Get Rid of Acne - A Step by Step Guide

Acne is a skin condition that happens when sebaceous glands in the skin give off more oil than natural causing pores to become blocked. Inside your hair follicles, there are small glands producing oil called sebum. This oil mixes with skin cells in the follicle and joins them on the journey outward. But when there's too much sebum, too many dead skin cells or something on the surface that blocks their exit from the follicle, a blockage can occur. Bacteria joins the party, and the result is acne vulgaris, the most common form of acne. Here are some ways on how to prevent acne outbreaks:

Keep your hands off your face - when people are bothered with pimples, they often touch their face and pick on the problem area. They even do this unconsciously. It will help prevent a pimple outbreak if you refrain from touching your face. Your hands can help spread the bacteria on your face causing a greater problem.

If you must pop a pimple yourself, apply a hot, wet compress until it becomes a whitehead, sterilize a needle in flame or alchohol and then carefully lance it. Squeeze it gently to drain and wash both your hands and the area of the pimple afterwards.

Never use astringent on the face if you want to get rid of acne. Such products contain substances that may worsen the condition. Because the skin lesions are inflamed, applying harmful chemicals may have adverse effects on the skin. Instead of actually clearing up the blemishes, it might end up drying the pustules and creating wounds on the skin.

Purchase over-the-counter acne medications. You may have to try several before you find the best one for your skin. They come in a wide range of prices, and more expensive is not always better.

Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun - the sun's harmful rays can damage and age the skin, it also exposes you to skin cancer. Also, if you are using pimple medications, you are more prone to sunburn so stay out of the sun as much as possible.

When using make up, make sure that the products are hypoallergenic. This will ensure that the make up is safe even for the most sensitive skin types. Read the label and do some skin test before even applying it on the face or in any area where acne is prominent.

Switch to a makeup that is not oil based. The oils can irritate your skin and clog your pores.

Change your diet. Eating chocolate, candy and greasy and unhealthy foods can definitely affect your complexion. Limit junk food intake, get plenty of vitamins and lead an overall healthy lifestyle.
