subject: Do Unto Others [print this page] Do Unto OthersDo Unto Others
Hmm, maybe if we tried practicing it again, it we would find why it was a command in the beginning!
Do, a small word of seemingly small consequence, however, think on the do word! Do, requiring taking action, a verb with a consequence! When you do something, you will experience results from the doing! In other words, even if you only sit and think, you will have a physiological response to that action!
Good or bad thoughts, you are the one who is in control of what you do! When we say do unto others, what comes to mind? I have heard such responses as, "Yah, before they can do unto you!" Wow, how would you like to be the bearer of that type of thinking?
When you consider what was meant by the original command, it was to better something in someone else' life! To make their life easier, more filled with blessing! Now, we make jokes about doing unto others, as we have simply stopped considering this challenge in its proper perspective!
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, takes on an entirely different perspective, when we take it seriously! The reason we fail to appropriate this thought, is that somehow we believe it has no real attachment to reality!
When you do unto others in a treatment of courtesy, and respect, these valuable virtues are returned to you! When you start to realize that people respond to you as you expect them to, you will become more greatly aware of the importance of treating others as you wish to be treated!
This is really a, "no-brainer", you get what you give, only more of it! Want disrespectful treatment, dole it out, want love, show it, want tolerance, be tolerant!
You will see these things come to be, when you care more about others, not just your friends, everyone, when your heart is so filled with compassion for the shortcomings of others, for their needs, you will feel the love of God fill you with greatness! Such love will not go unrequited!
You will receive in direct response to what you give!
