Construction PMI broadly flat but fall still noted, new orders slow City Index Market Update

Financial spread betting and CFD trading market news for April 4th from the experts at provider City Index (http://www.cityindex.co.uk/) In March, the UK's Construction Purchasing Manager's Index (PMI) posted a result of 56.4, down by 0.1 per cent from the previous month. The report by Markit and the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) noted that new order growth slightly slowed, although this still performed well. In February, the UK's construction PMI hit an eight-month peak. In March, cost inflation soared to its highest since the middle of 2008. Commenting on the figures, CIPS chief executive officer David Noble said: "Fractionally weaker levels of activity and a more noticeable slowdown in new orders contributed to an easing of business confidence, which remains at historically low levels." He added that government spending cuts are the biggest cause for concern amongst organisations in the sector. Furthermore, March's PMI may be weaker as the effects of increased activity following the severe winter weather begin to tail off. Meanwhile, the latest Markit and CIPS UK Manufacturing PMI report revealed that in March, a result of 57.1 was posted, a five-month low.
