The Rise of Mobile Commerce
The Rise of Mobile Commerce

The world of Internet technologies opened more than just one avenue of potential for mankind. Over the years, communication technology has developed our lives as we know it manifold. Now, with the 21st century in progress, every year, the telecom industry changes its faces. Mobile commerce is the new holy grail of business and entrepreneurship. The world of eCommerce has shifted base from computers as a new world of mobile booking and services open doors to faster solutions for everything.

The rise of phone commerce came after 2005. Though smart phones were in the market as early as 2001, they only went generic almost half a decade later. The first service providers of 3G technology was the European telecom giant in the namesake. 3G released a few handsets in the market with video conferencing and interactive media facilities. Services like mobile booking were still far in the horizon. The phones were Internet enabled. But can you imagine working on WebPages meant for 15 inch screens on a screen that was 3.5 inches across? This was the primary reason why mobile Internet facilities didn't hit off in their conception. Besides, the services were far too expensive for ordinary people and limited to Australia, UK, a few European countries, and America.

The rise of mobile commerce came with the release of iPhones, Android devices, Blackberry systems, and next generation Nokia handsets in 2006 2007. Not only did these phones reach out to the vast Asian consumer markets, they also provided the complete package affordably. Various service providers also made 3rd generation technology easy to avail to. With huge markets like China and India running fast wireless Internet services, there was no stopping the huge swell in the market for smart phones.

The idea of smart devices was to bring all the flexible functionality of laptops and computes into handsets. After all, handsets have a number of advantages over computers:

They are by far more portable

They are more affordable than laptops

There is a huge selection of different phones to choose from

Companies can afford to provide executives with phones more affordably over laptops

They are always online and available

They provide both a communication platform and utilitarian purposes

They can be used for all the necessary eCommerce purposes like shopping, and ticketing

Mobile payments are safer than computer banking access with better digital security

With the onset of the great recession of 2008, mobile solutions won the final battle for supremacy. Companies needed to provide employees with a constant source of working resources. Before, laptops were common perks given to executives to remain in constant touch and emergency working. But with cost cutting in mind due to the financial stress, laptops were getting burdensome for companies to provide everyone.

Instead, smart phones and touch screen devices like Tablets were by far more affordable. They provided all the services of a computer, and the communicability of phones in one package. Today, more people connect to the Internet over phones than regular computers. Superfast wireless Internet services, and high-end devices have fed the market and mobile commerce is the new business medium the world over.
