Moving Up the Ladder of Education with East Carolina University An Overview

The East Carolina University is a coeducational, public university based out of Greenville in North Carolina State. Commonly known by its initial letters, ECU, it is a research university.

The university is classified into 3 campuses, mentioned as follows:

Main CampusHealth Sciences CampusWest Research Campus. One of the biggest universities in the state in terms of enrollments, the ECU manages to have a decent faculty to student ratio of 1 is to 16. Classified as a doctoral, research university, East Carolina University forms a large four year, primarily residential varsity.

Running on the semester examination schedule, the highest offering at the campus is the Doctoral degree. Business administration and other management studies, elementary education & teaching, nursing, psychology and journalism are some popular courses opted by students, in terms of enrollment numbers.

Unlike many other colleges, ECU doesn't support the weekend college concept. This is quite strange for a university which has more than 27,000 students on its admission roll. Other student learning opportunities at the campus include teacher certification and ROTC based courses. ECU has an online campus via its distance learning facility. The college ranks good in the safe school index in spite of the college's enrollment strength.

In terms of sports, the college has its own sports complexes, North Recreational Complex and the Blount Recreational Sports Complex. Sports and Athletic Conference Memberships are through the NCAA, while popular sports here include disciplines of football, basketball, baseball, track & field events etc.

Admission Scores and Student Facilities

Cumulative SAT scores average at 920 out of 1100, while the average ACT cumulative scores stand at 19 from a possible 23 (25/75 percentile). It doesn't have an on campus day care facility, but career counseling and placement cells (with respect to job descriptions and other aspects) work efficiently with the students. PT cost-defraying employment is also available for students.

Talking about grants and financial aid, the student loan facility is quite popular during admission, apart from grants like federal, state, local and institution based ones.

In general, with alumni from ECU having made name in many fields, ranging from print media to politics, the university is heading towards more success.
