Cleaning the Bathroom in 4 Simple Steps
Cleaning the Bathroom in 4 Simple Steps

One of the rooms in the house that frequently needs attention is the bathroom. Stuff is left on the counter, towels on the floor, and mirrors have water marks. In the same way as with any room, if you take a gradual approach to cleaning the room, you can have a clean and germ-free bathroom in a brief amount of time.

1. Countertops

The counter gets filled with so many things quickly, and it becomes really untidy. To begin with, remove everything off the counter. Clean it using a spray cleaner, whatever type you prefer. Don't forget the backsplash. Wash the sink, and rinse all surfaces well with water.

Clean the mirror next while the counter is cleared. Window cleaner is absolutely necessary, or a solution of vinegar and water, as a backup. The ratio of vinegar to water is 1 to 3. You can put the solution in a spray bottle.

Now, look at items you took off the counter. If you feel that it is okay for them to be there, then put them back neatly. If not, put them in the cabinet or drawer or wherever they belong. And throw away anything that cannot be used anymore.

Lay toothbrushes on a clean paper towel while the toothbrush holder is being washed with dish detergent. Scum stacks up quickly in the bottom and is unsanitary, so clean it out!

2. Shower and Tub

Take away anything that need to be washed from the inside of the shower stall and put it in the hamper. Remove bars of soap, shampoo, or razors from the shower shelves.

Once more, use your preferred cleaner and spray it on the walls of the shower and the tub. You may need to let the cleaner sit for a quite a while. Use a soft scrubbing sponge and start at the top of the shower walls and work all the way downwards. For tough spots, little kitchen scrappers works quite well. Make sure it is the plastic type that won't damage the surface.

To rinse the walls and tub, use a large plastic cup or a small clean bucket. If you have one of the shower accessories, a hose that is detachable, it will make the rinsing much easier. Place the soap and shampoo back on the shower wall shelves.

3. Toilet

Put away anything that is on the back of the toilet. Clean the back of the tank. When cleaning the outside part of the toilet surfaces, use a spray cleaner that contains bleach. Use paper towels instead of rags to clean the outside and throw the rags away when done. Disinfectant or bleach wipes are excellent.

Apply a good cleaning solution in the toilet bowl, and let it sit for a few minutes. Then use the long-handled toilet brush and scrub the toilet. Flush it out a couple of times to rinse.

Now spray the solution on the toilet seat on upper and underside with the spray cleaner and wipe off. Make sure you also clean the rim of the toilet bowl and behind the bolts that hold the seat on. With another clean paper towel, spray and wipe the toilet lid from top to bottom.

Spray and wipe the bottom of the tank and also the base where it bolts to the floor. This area is always where dirt sticks around.

4. Floor

The worst is mostly over now. The next thing to be cleaned is the floor. Take baskets or hampers out of the room if necessary. Use a broom or dust mop to sweep the floor. Then mop the floor and rinse.

Finally, you're finished! Set clean towels on the racks, and maybe some fresh potpourri in a bowl on the counter. You can now enjoy your clean and organized bathroom and go do something that's a lot more fun!
