The Full Swing - Golf Swing Basics - Precise, Purposeful, Powerful

I actually fashioned a somewhat usable golf swing with this method and eventually managed about a 15 handicap.

What I had really done was build a trap that took me many years to realize, and more time to get out of.

As I became older and progressively lost arm strength, I found that I was developing a lot of swing problems such as; loss of consistent distance, a very persistent slice, hitting all of my irons about the same distance and these were just the noticeable ones.

The trap was that having never received professional swing training I did not know what to try to correct, I did not even know how to accurately explain what was wrong.

I continued to play and watched my handicap climb to the 25-30 range, and began to decide that I just was not and never was going to be a good golfer. But I failed to connect the dots.

I did try a few lessons along the way, not finding the solutions to my swing problems. The forearms complete their rotation just after impact, the momentum of the swing will pull you completely up on your front leg and fully facing the target in a balanced finish.

If you are having trouble with your swing find a qualified PGA teaching professional in your area. Read the books by some of the great golfers and swing coaches. Practice the correct moves and sequences until they are muscle memory and automatic.

The one caution I would have is be careful of random tips you might find online, be sure you are trying something that will really help, rather than a band-aid fix that will only work a short time.

Many golfers have a magic score that they're trying to break, and whether its 100, 90 or breaking par the feeling of tallying up the score at the end of the round and seeing a personal best is pretty amazing. The reality is that many players struggle for years trying to improve their golf swing and trying to beat their personal best. If you're like most golfers who shoot in the 90's and 100's the core focus of any practise is not usually golf swing basics and consists of hitting balls with reckless abandonment (who doesn't like gripping it and ripping it!). Not only do you take so many shots with one club, but there is nothing more frustrating than finally having a great golf swing and hitting a green in regulation, with a 20 foot putt for birdie only to walk away with a bogey on the golf score card. Unlike the challenges of trying to practise your golf swing in the living room, you can easily practise the fundamentals of putting at home. Your floor is flat (or it should be) which allows you to practise the basic swing movements and fine tune your swing. However there is nothing like practising on a real green and its worth spending an extra time on the green.

Having a great golf swing on the tee sets the tone for the hole. Although the golf courses' most people play don't typically have US Open rough and generally have wide landing areas; hitting it down the middle is still important.
