Back To Organization, Back To Work!
Time Management skills are not something that humans are born with. Of course, some people seem to excel at organizational and time management abilities, but this is usually because they either consciously or unconsciously picked up these abilities at come point. Fortunately, time management abilities can be learned by anyone. If you want to do this, however, you will have to make some adjustments in your daily habits and patterns. When it comes down to it, time management is mostly about creating a responsible plan for your day and then sticking to it. With this in mind, let's explore some proven time management strategies you can start using today.
Don't try to be perfect. Getting better at time management doesn't mean you will never make a mistake. When you are obsessed with perfection, you end up making more mistakes than you otherwise would. This is just the way things are. The more focus you put on being perfect, the less focus you will have on actually managing your time well and getting your work done. Time management cannot be perfect. Nothing goes exactly the way you planned it. Learn to be happy knowing you did the best you could. You will find that you are more organized and efficient when you have some perspective and aren't in crisis mode.
Schedule out your time for each day, week and month. If you have an eight hour work day, plan that out to include things like "returning e-mail" time and "weekly conference call" and even "take a break!" You will find it much easier to handle your tasks if you have a structured schedule. With a structured schedule you can train yourself to be quite productive during certain times of the day. You will need to implement some diligence though. Follow this regimine for a few weeks and you are likely to find that it has become second nature.
It is important not to forget to plan for breaks and relaxation times. Nobody can go full throttle all day long without it really wearing them down. Staying on top of your game is best handled with a fresh mind and relaxed body which is why you need scheduled breaks or down times every day. Your brain is a complicated being that has proven time and again to function more efficiently after returning from abreak period. So be sure you schedule a few brain breaks each day and then be sure to actually take them. You will see just how much your mind and body will thrive with these little blips in the schedule. They are important to your emotional health too. Never let anyone convince you otherwise.
You have alot of options for management skills. Your situation right this second has no bearing on how soon you can get things in order. What you have to do is begin making new good habits. In a matter of time you will be a time management master never ever having to worry about losing time daydreaming.
