For a long time, one of the major obstacles to success in the MLM network marketing industry has been that most networkers have little advertising background.
Building a large mlm team requires having a constant supply of good prospects looking at your business each day. Except for the rare networker networker who has a large circle of influence and is willing to prospect within it, networkers have to rely on advertising to keep their prospecting pipeline full.
Lacking proper advertising skills not only limits the generation of daily leads and its resulting business volume, it also eats up marketer's time, money, and emotions. It is very typical for a networker who is getting poor results to get discouraged and quit the business.
I have found that some of the most valuable training we can provide our new team members is effective marketing skills. The majority of people in our industry still need to learn good copy writing. You can find many Internet sources of good copy writing training.
We teach our team 4 basic elements that are essential to good advertising. These are valid for both a classified ad for local marketing or an Internet ad such as a landing or lead capture page. Use these as both a 4 step checklist to review your current marketing already in place and as an outline for future advertising.
Attention. This is the big one because if your marketing does not grab the prospect's attention, nothing else matters. The tool we use to grab a prospects attention is is a strong headline. Improving your headlines will do more for your success than any other change.
Interest. Next in importance to the headline, you need to develop their interest. This is best done by sharing benefits. Benefits are best placed in sub-headlines in your marketing piece. This is where you let the prospect know what's in it for him or her.
Desire. This expands on their interest and makes the prospect want what you've got. When you build enough desire you can dramatically raise your number of sign ups.
Action. This is where you lead the prospect to the final step. Tell the prospect exactly what they need to do. Tell them to fill out the form, or call your office right away, or sign up and get started, for example. I usually add some urgency to my action step by including bonuses or big savings for immediate action.
Even with these 4 ingredients in place, good marketing requires testing the results of one version of an ad against another. That is the only way to know exactly what works best.
