On a UK driving licence, there are some stipulations about what you can and can't do. You are legally obliged to hold the right driving licence for the vehicle you are driving, and to meet the minimum age requirements. You are also required to meet the legal eyesight standards. These have been changed a lot in the past five years and the distance is now a lot shorter, but you are obliged to meet the standards that they set. If you are found to have poor eyesight then you will not be able to do your test.

Before you take to the road in your vehicle you must be registered with the DVLA (which you have to do to obtain your driving licence) and have a valid tax disc in your car. You also need to hold a current test certificate. You will need to have car insurance, whether it is the minimum requirement of third party fire and theft, or whether you have a more comprehensive car insurance policy.

If you move house or make any alterations to your vehicle, you must notify the DVLA. This includes changing to personalised number plates and any modifications to the body work that you are involving.
