For most people, they hate going to the gym. They hate working out, exercising, doing cardio, lifting weights etc. You know, I can't blame them sometimes. It's not the most fun thing in the world to do, especially if you are just doing it because you feel like you have too. You probably rather just sit on the couch watching the Biggest Loser or Dancing with the Stars. I've never watched both, but my girl friends are addicted to them. I rather run some sprints then pass out.
But back to the subject, working out, losing belly fat, building muscle can be a lot more fun than you think. When it really comes down to it, all you have to do is provide a specific stimulus to your body for it to grow and adapt. And that does not have to be in the weight room or slaving away on the treadmill!
One great workout that you can do outside is sled dragging. Sled dragging is extremely popular with strength and conditioning athletes and workout enthusiasts. You basically load up a sled with weight, tie a rope around it and drag it across the ground. You can go fast with the sled, slow, backwards and forwards. You can even do upper body work with the sled giving you a total body workout. But let me warn you, the sled is no joke. I made my first one about 4 years ago out of some old plywood, a truck tire and boat rope. I was using it for the summer for conditioning workouts. My friends would always make fun of me, calling it a "ghetto workout." So I challenged them one day.
All 3 were big soccer players back in the day and they worked out with weights. First guy went, and puked, the 2nd one went and he did not get up for about 5 minutes, and the third person went and he just sat on the chair in the corner like a preschooler who just got yelled at.
It is a great workout but tough at the same time. You will burn a ton of calories in the process though and be that much leaner if you keep up with the workouts AND if your diet is in check.
An easy workout to do is drag the sled nice and slowly for 100 yards for a total of 6 times back and forth.
Another cool way that you can workout outside is with a kids jungle gym. Those things are great! I love them. You can go to the park on a nice, warm, sunny afternoon, do some sled dragging then utilize the jungle gym. You can use the monkey bars for pull ups and other parts for dips. You can do a whole workout this way. And it will be fun, plus you'll get tons of Vitamin D from being outside in the sun.
One workout I did one time with friends was we went up to our old high school and decided to push our cars back and forth.
I know, crazy and stupid. My one friend just had a strawberry milk shake and you can guess where that went.
But it was an awesome leg workout and we probably burned a ton of calories for the next hour or two just from all the stress we placed on our bodies and legs during that time.
The last type of workout that I really like to perform during the summer is a combination of using the sled and strongman training. What I do is I will sprint with the sled as fast as I can until I start slowing down. Then I will pick up two heavy dumbbells and walk back to the starting spot with them, this exercise is called farmer's walks.
From there, I will pick up a 45 pound plate, hold it over my head and walk back with it, then rest. By the end of the workout, your forearms are torched, your abs are done and your legs are burning. But it's great because again, it is almost a total body workout and you burn a lot of calories. (if you want, you can add in push ups too)
So that's it for today. If you belong to a gym, you can do some of this stuff in doors if there is a big enough space. If you live where it is warm right now, definitely take advantage of your situation and exercise outdoors with these cool workouts. They are a lot of fun and an awesome break from the occasional boredom.
