How to Choose Women's Trousers

It is fair to say that most women love shopping for clothes, and a good thing too, imagine hours spent shopping for the perfect item of clothing if you really do not like the task (just ask your boyfriend/father/other significant male). In fact, it is very lucky that women love shopping, because it can be an extremely difficult undertaking, and for most women, it takes years to hone this is why the majority of 18 year olds have no idea how to dress, they have not yet perfected the art! Whether you are buying t-shirts, jumpers, or dresses, the task is hard, but of all clothing types, women's trousers are by far the most difficult to buy well. This is why the subject of this article concerns the buying of trousers; we hope that you learn some informative lessons as you read our advice.

Firstly, you will need to buy the right sized trousers. This sounds obvious, but many women wear trousers that are either too baggy, or too tight, both of which will not allow the wearer to look their best. If you are unaware of the correct size you should be wearing, have yourself measured by a professional tailor. Bear in mind, that clothing in the UK is often marked in the 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, etc, measurement, but it is better for you to know your metric or imperial measurements (cm and inches respectively) because the 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, measurements often vary between shops, so an item labelled 16 in one store, could be labelled 14 in another. You may see a problem with this advice: if an item is marked 12, for instance, how do you know the garments cm/in measurements? Fortunately, the majority of clothing has more than one type of measurement marked, so this should not pose too much of an issue.

Next, you must select a style that suits you. This is relatively easy and the main consideration is your body type, as long as you wear trousers that flatter your shape, they should look good:

Boy Shape

This body shape has very subtle feminine curves, and so you will need to choose women's trousers that emphasise the female form. Straight-legged, flared, or boot cut trousers suit your body type, but make sure they do not sport a wide leg, you want to create an illusion of curves so trousers that taper towards the knee, and flare from mid-calf are ideal.

Pear Shape

This body shape carries more weight on the tummy, than the hips, thighs, and legs, and so you will want to choose a pair of trousers that downplays the problem area and highlights the comparative slimness of the legs and hips. Straight-cut trousers are ideal here, although you can also get away with wearing boot cut trousers too. The important fact to remember is to purchase clothes that skim your body, and are not too clingy.

Finally, choose a style that reflects your personality, both in terms of design and colour. Only you can know this, so we leave these decisions up to you.
