Knowing the Ovulation Cycle

Copyright (c) 2011 Andrew SchererThere are lots of things to consider when you would want to get pregnant or avoid it. One thing to take into account is to know your body's ovulation cycle which lets you determine the right time to have intercourse or not because it is during this period that you are most fertile. You are able to determine your ovulation cycle per month just by taking note of some signs and symptoms in your body. The ovulation cycle is a part of a bigger cycle that occurs each month inside your body which is known as the menstrual cycle. At the onset of the ovulation cycle, an egg cell is produced inside your body which gets ready for fertilization. This egg is discharged by a matured follicle inside your ovary once each month. After which, the egg will travel to the fallopian tubes where it can be fertilized with a sperm cell. If it is not, it is discharged during menstruation. The egg can only be fertilized within 12-48 hours following ovulation. However, the sperm can live up to 5 days inside a woman's body so the possibility of fertilization can also be heightened when having intercourse 5 days before ovulation. To know your ovulation period, you must also know your monthly regular menstrual cycle. For 28-days menstrual cycle, the egg cell will mostly produced on day 14 of the cycle. Having regular monthly menstrual cycle may not be possible which means that your ovulation period also varies from time to time accordingly. One method to figure out if you're already ovulating is by taking ovulation prediction kits. You can use these kits like pregnancy tests wherein a sample of your urine is tested for luteinising hormone that's produced much more throughout ovulation. Yet another thing to make you figure out that you're nearing the start of your ovulation is by noticing and taking note of body and emotional changes. Some symptoms that might occur consist of the rise and fall of your body basal temperature, the texture of your cervical discharge (whether clear and stretchy), and as well as the location of your cervix which is high and also soft.
