Flatulence - The Common Phenomenon

It may not be painful nut causes discomfort and embarrassment most of the time. Flatulence normally occurs when there is obstruction in the intestinal tracts which does not allow easy passage of this gas thereby causing offensive odor when passed out.

Flatulence as we all know is caused by improper digestion. This gas is normally formed by bacteria in the colon of the large intestine due to the fermentation. The gas consists of (carbon dioxide, nitrogen, hydrogen sulfite and methane). This bacterium normally acts on unabsorbed carbohydrates and protein. The gas cannot be accommodated by the stomach so it finds all means to get out thereby causing discomfort to us all. Examples of foods that cause this are beans, fibers, carbonated drinks and so on.

Bean is a type of food which we all know to cause flatulence. The hull of the beans is known to accommodate this gas. When beans is been cooked properly, the toxins the toxins is removed and no gas is formed. Here is suggestion for the proper preparation of beans.

1. Soak the beans for 6-7 hours to soften the hulls and make the toxins dissolve in the water then pour off the water.

2. Add fresh water and onions.

3. Boil for a while then drain off the water with the onion.

4. Add ingredients then boil till its soft and you are ready to eat gas free beans.

Note that beans should be eaten 4-5 hours before going to bed to reduce risk of indigestion which later causes constipation.

CAUSES OF FLATULENCE

The following are the major causes of flatulence:

1. Eating in a hurry causes improper mastication and chewing which make digestion simply difficult.

2. Eating hot food also cause improper chewing.

3. Drinking while eating

4. Swallowing air while eating due to ingestion of peppery foods.

TREATMENT OF FLATULENCE

1. Eat gently and make sure you chew your food well before swallowing.

2. Avoid drinking while eating.

3. Do not consume very hot foods.

4. Avoid eating very peppery foods.

5. Make good combination of food.

6. Reduce consumption of pulses (beans, peas, lentils).

7. Take plenty yogurt fro it is known to aid digestion.

8. Stomach exercises help to reduce constipation

Garlic, Ginger and Onion are recommended for the treatment of flatulence because they are good stimulant which make them aid easy digestion and eliminate gases.
