Back to the Basics - Nail Fungus Prevention 101

Do you know that nails tell much of things regarding you?

Conventionally, it takes months or even years to know a person. But our toenails can get to show what we are in just a moment. It reflects a person's sense of hygiene and consideration about his hygiene up to the most secreted details of his body. Even if we put utmost effort to look nice and healthy to others, to hide our bad hygiene or unhealthy lifestyle for example, our nails would just reveal everything about us.

Nails just like skins, require proper care and attention to keep them healthy and free from diseases like the most common one - the nail fungal infection. These fungi are plan-like organisms having no chlorophyll. The keratin, which is one of the building block of our skin, hairs, and nails, is the fungi's source of food. The areas of our body which are moist and dark is their dwelling place. This is the cause why our nails are susceptible to fungus infection.

Nail fungus inflicts the nails on the toes and fingers but toenails are more susceptible to being infected of the disease being wide and moist area. They hit people who constantly wear shoes and socks. Shoes sweat our feet while the socks absorb it and keep the dampness putting up an avenue for fungus attack.

Not one toenail is exempted from the fungus disease but there are ways to keep away from them. The elementary thing to begin with is to wear clean and synthetic socks. They absorb a lesser amount of moisture on your feet. Also, don't disregard to change your socks each time you sweat your feet. And in no way use your socks over and over again for it has already accumulated dirt.

Wear shoes that fits you. Use shoes that give the feet the opening to breathe. Leather shoes works as one best example. It has the ability to sip moisture to keep it off your feet. Removing your shoes periodically too gives air for your feet to breathe and to prevent them from retaining sweat.

But if your feet really sweat a lot, consume strong anti-fungal sprays or powders to destroy bacteria that possibly will accumulate. Use of anti-fungal sprays and powders even without the threat of fungus works for a healthy feet.

Don't fail to remember that the niche of these fungi is set in the swimming pools, in the shower rooms, and in humid areas. You could get attacked of the fungus on these areas when you walk without your foot covers on. Around these areas, wearing flip-flops or aqua shoes will surely prevent the swarming of fungus into your nails.

Moreover, grooming materials for the nails such as cutters, pushers and the like must be sterilized. But if you often visit a salon to get your nails done, make sure they sterilize their instruments or better yet bring your own.

Further, strengthening the body's immune system helps our body fight toenail fungal infections. Strengthening our bodily immunity from these fungus is one big defense we can do, but we should never give the work alone to them by exercising precautions.

Toenail fungal infection is really ignominious and bothersome and it all boils down to the absence of practice of good hygiene. Rather than to cure it when it is already there, it is better that we avoid our nails ahead from its attack. Washing the feet when they are dirty and wiping them dry are the rudiments of feet hygiene. Prevention by practice of good hygiene is way better and convenient than curing it.
