Four Simple Reminders for Type 2 Diabetes Cooking

There are a few certain important things that one should remember in type 2 diabetes cooking. Diabetes type 2 is part of diabetes mellitus, which is a group of diseases that are characterized by an abnormal production or use of insulin. It is also a common type of diabetes, wherein the body does not produce a sufficient amount of insulin.

The following list is composed of reminders that one must consider in type 2 diabetes cooking. Since the majority of diabetes 2 patients are overweight, keeping these things in mind can help treat diabetes, especially when coupled with regular exercise. These can even help avoid the need for medication.

1. On carbohydrates. When preparing or cooking foods that are rich in carbohydrates, choose products that are rich in complex carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates are much more difficult to digest for the body, which allows for energy to be spread out evenly throughout the day. If you like cooking pasta, then opt for whole wheat pasta. Other foods that are rich in complex carbohydrates are bran products and whole grain products

2. On oils. Use liquid oils when cooking food for diabetic patients rather than solid fats. This is because solid fats are high in saturated fat as well as trans fat. Use vegetable oils (such as sunflower oil) and other healthier oils (such as olive oil).

3. On fats. It is not advisable for diabetic patients to take too much fat since they have higher risks for strokes and heart diseases. Instead, patients can opt for the good fats (omega 3 essential fatty acids) that are found in fish like tuna and salmon.

4. On protein. If you like to meat, then only choose skinless poultry and lean cuts (such as sirloin and pork loin). However, beans and legumes are healthier options because they also contain protein but are not high in cholesterol.

Aside from these four simple reminders for type 2 diabetes cooking, do not forget as well to limit the proportions of the food that you eat to what is only allowed because overeating is still harmful. Also, you should try to regulate your eating on specific times per day so that your body gets used to it.
