My Laptop is slow A Slow Computer would not give you money!

Your computer is your buddy when it comes to work. Most jobs today require at least a bit of knowledge about computers. For most corporate jobs, you don't really need a high end computer. Most office works using word processing software and spreadsheet application require just minimum processing speed, memory and graphics. If this is the case, why do we say that a faster PC leads to greater efficiency? What makes us believe that having a speedier computer is better than having a mid-range computer given that it is still working well? How can a faster PC make you more money?

Let us first look at the scenario that my laptop is slow. Let us also assume that I work as a graphic artist for my own business and I make $20 an hour if I distribute the daily earnings in equal amounts for 8 hours of work. Because my laptop is slow, the time it takes for it to fully boot is 3 minutes. I open a photo editing software and it takes 1 minute to load. It is fine for me because after the program loads, there isn't any problem and I can do my work without any disruption. So what if I want to check my email because I am waiting for a message from a very important client. So I minimized my current window to open my web browser. Because my computer memory is low, the browser loads after a minute.

While the browser is loading, I can't maximize my previous window because the computer will hang. So I am waiting idly for a minute. At the end of the day, I manage to complete a job, but I still have a lot of clients in the waiting line. If we assume that I have a faster laptop that boots in just a couple of seconds. It can also run programs instantaneously and is not having any problems with regards to multi-tasking. If we assume that the wasted time as far as the slower computer is concerned is 4 minutes, then we can see that it really makes a lot of difference. I we do the math; let's say that for 1 day, the time wasted is 24 minutes.

If I work 5 days a week, that would give me 120 minutes of wasted time. That's 2 hours. So if I make $20 per hour, that's $40 per week. If we continue, we will obtain $160 per month and $1920 per year. If I have a faster computer, I can cut the idle time by more than 75%. We cannot deny that $1920 per year is a lot of money.
