Treating a toothache with remedies

With the rising prices of dental care, and the long dental office wait times these days, treating a toothache yourself could be a good option for some. Of course, there are certain factors that will need to be considered before choosing home toothache remedies over seeing a dentist. In many instances, however, you can treat it yourself with simple home remedies that have proven to work for many people.

Some toothaches are indication that the dentist office is exactly where you should head. This is true when a root canal is needed or a cavity needs filled right away. If this isn't the case, then hometoothache remedies can be helpful when you can't see a dentist right away. A list of things you can try for your toothache follows:

Gargling Salt Water: a cup of cold water and a few teaspoons of salt should keep your toothache away for about an hour or so.

Ice Cube Rub: rubbing the affected area with ice cubes is a great numbing procedure.

Bay Berry Bark Extract Paste: applying this paste along with vinegar acts as instant relief.

Onion Remedy: diced up onion pieces applied directly to the hurting tooth. This is also a natural antibioticto remove the germs.

Fluoride Toothpaste: brushing the affected tooth with a good fluoride toothpaste has proven great relief.

Vanilla Extract: soaking a cotton ball in vanilla extract and applying to affected tooth has been reported to take the pain away for hours.

Ground Cloves: apply ground cloves or clove oil directly to tooth. Can also be used on decaying teeth.

Lemon Extract: you can squeeze lemon juice directly on the tooth for relief, but this may be less effective the more you use this remedy.

Potato: applying potato pieces to affected tooth for approximately 15 minutes.

Tea Bags: heat an unused tea bag and apply to hurting tooth. This remedy can take the pain away for several hours!

While many of these toothache remedies have excellent user reviews, they should never replace good dental hygiene including regular check ups and teeth cleaning. They can definitely give you the relief you need to make it through those long dental office waits, and may even provide you enough relief to get the money together to pay for those high dental bills.
