subject: How I Got To Go To Lots Of Birthday Parties For Kids: [print this page] When I was 7 or 8 years old, we had a neighbour, Mr Elliot, who used to drive us home from school with his own children sometimes. He would drive past our house, pretending he didnt know where it was. Wed scream with delight at this because we knew that he knew where the house was. Hed ask oh, have I passed it? and turn around to go back. Then hed pass the house again in the opposite direction. More screams of delight. This went on 4 or 5 times, much to our amusement.
My Uncle John, my mothers youngest brother, had a similar effect on us. He was the one who would play in the garden with us, swinging us around like aeroplanes.
Most adults seemed boring to us but they werent. Most other adults preferred each others company and had lots of important stuff to do. Mr Elliot and Uncle John seemed to want to play with us, to make us laugh. The story I tell myself is that they had an influence on my choice of career. They modelled for me what a childrens clown was like. Imagine making children laugh for a living? Which is exactly what Ive been doing for about 15 years, as an actress in a theatre troupe where we wrote, directed, made props etc for shows for kids; as a drama teacher; as a street entertainer; as a clown doctor in childrens hospitals and as a party clown and childrens entertainer at birthday parties for kids.
I do a few different types of parties: I do princess parties, clown parties, pirate parties and themed parties (e.g. disco parties, high school musical parties etc). They are all great fun. The princess birthday party is one of the most popular. Its great for a group of all girls. I have other kids party entertainers who work with me if Im too busy or cant do the day a parent is looking for. These are some of the best childrens party entertainers in Ireland and the feedback from parents is always excellent.
I feel really lucky to have come upon this as a way of making my living. I get to play with kids and go to parties all the time.
