There is a long story preceding the release of WindowsRestore. The program as such is not a great novelty though.

History of the program dates back to the autumn of 2011. During that period several dozens of applications sharing absolutely the same face, with name being the only exemption, made their introduction into thousands of computers systems and quickly proved that the hackers focusing on counterfeiting software for the first time made really significant investment into programs that did not mention any viruses. Instead of mentioning viruses, those programs pretended to discover plenty of performance problems, e.g. RAM memory extremely high temperature.

Then there was a break for a few weeks closer to the end of the following winter and the fake defragmenters were for the first time essentially redressed. Compare the face of SystemDefragmenter of the first generation and Windows Recovery from the second. You may follow the links below to get screenshots for comparison (in no way we suggest trial download of the above rogues to research purposes. The fake optimizer software in question is dressed up exactly as the second example program. However, it bewilders both users and security tools as its scripts are absolutely unrelated to any of its forerunners. That complicates Windows Restore removal as individual extermination methods need to be developed.

WindowsRestore is quite nasty program and few users can endure it for too long. Foreseeing this well, hackers have provided a number of tricks to make users promptly satisfy the adware activation requests. In particular, the adware has a habit of casing fake system reboot. In actuality, it merely generates a popups faking the state of screen at reboot and may produce boot failure message.

Just like any of its relatives, the fake antispyware generates its popup whenever it wants. And it often wants them to appear when you are in urgent need of all your system capacity. For instance, the adware is known to inform (misinform) users of hard drive error when movies are being played or users are playing high-capacity games.
