If you are looking for a truly hidden gem, then head on down to Smitswinkel Bay which is right next to the Cape Point Nature Reserve. Smitswinkel can't be seen from the road and there is no real road access (what is there is a private road so you won't be able to drive down), but if you are up for a bit of a walk to get there, then you are in for a treat.
Sandwiched between the cool, blue Atlantic Ocean and the mountains which make the Cape Peninsula so dramatic, Smitswinkel is a beautifully white, sandy beach with a few rocky patches here and there. It is totally secluded and reserved for those lucky enough to have a home perched on the side of the mountain, and to those who are feeling energetic enough to make the trip down there.
Smitswinkel is also well known for the shipwrecks just off the coast although you will need a boat to get out to them if you indent on doing some scuba diving. Otherwise just bring a snorkel and explore the sea life right off the beach or the cliff face on either side of it.
I would suggest taking a picnic lunch and some beach bats and a Frisbee and heading to Smitswinkel early in the morning. Spend the day there having fun, out of the hustle and bustle of the beaches closer to town. Don't forget to bring an umbrella because there is little shelter from the sun which can get very hot. You should also remember to reserve some energy for the trip back up to the road and your car :)
You can get to Smitswinkel from Simonstown side or from theCape Point Nature Reserve direction, just look for the gravel parking area and the sign pointing you down towards the sea.
