More plumbers needed as Government's Warm Front Grants increases demand

Demand for plumbers is predicted to dramatically increase as the Government's Warm Front grants scheme re-commences.

The Government's Warm Front grants scheme is designed to encourage homeowners to make their homes more efficient through upgrading or installing boilers and a range of insulation and heating measures. Having proved to be hugely successful last year, the scheme will re-open with this year's allocated funding allowance in April. For plumbers, or for those looking for a plumbing career, the Warm Front scheme is likely to be a huge source of work as homeowners seek to upgrade their heating systems and boilers.

The Warm Front grants were originally introduced by the Government to provide funding for people on disability or certain income-related benefits to enable installation and upgrading of heating and insulation measures in their homes. Typically, the Warm Front grants provide homeowner's with funding of up to 3,500 for standard gas-fired household heating. The Warm Front scheme is likely to be a big draw to people interested in becoming plumbers and Gas Safe heating engineers. In fact, coupled with other Government funding schemes scheduled for the next few years under the Green Deal, plumbers and heating engineers are set to be in extraordinarily high demand.

The Warm Front scheme launched last year, proving hugely popular and its entire budget was rapidly allocated to homeowners. As a result, many eligible homeowners were turned down simply because all the funding had been allocated. The scheme has been continued this year and applications are to be accepted once the new funding is released to the scheme in April. Based on last year's impressive record, the scheme is likely to be extremely popular and plumbers are going to in high demand to carry out homeowners' grant-funded upgrades.

Why will demand for plumbers soar?

Warm front grants will provide homeowners with funding for the following home improvements, many of which you learn during plumber training:

Loft insulation

Draught proofing

Hot water tank insulation

Gas, electric or oil heating

For plumbers who have undergone the relevant training, this presents an exciting opportunity as they will be able to provide homeowners with these home improvements.

As the market currently stands, the average plumber can earn up to 25,000 if they work by themselves and some top earners even earn up to 40,000! Of course, getting the proper training is vital to your career development you must ensure that the courses you take provide the correct qualifications for the work you intend to carry out.
