Being able to own a second home is a fantastic achievement, but if you want to buy a home abroad then where should you choose?
Four homes published a list of the best places to live this week, so why not start house hunting in one of the below?
Spain
Known for its sunny climes in the summer months, the Costa del Sol is a popular place for people to move to after they have retired. At the moment properties are cheap as the economy has taken a downturn, so why not head here for white beaches and friendly faces?
France
France is such a diverse country that there is something for everyone, from farm houses and vineyard to chic city getaways. Its easily accessible from the UK so you can pop back and forward, and with wine and cheese and delicious breads, it's a food lovers paradise.
Portugal
The Algarve is another favourite for people searching for a second home, and the weather is balmy and warm most of the year through. Golf fans and beach lovers flock here yearly, and the expat community is strong if you are thinking of making a new life in the sun.
Florida
Florida has a slightly different draw; theme parks and fun daw people here year after year. With year round sunshine it's a great place to live, and you will be able to rent your home out when you are not there.
Cyprus
The tiny island of Cyprus is always warm and it's the third largest holiday island in the Mediterranean. There has been an economic slump of late which means that house prices are reasonable. The island is well geared to tourists and it's a great place to spend your time.
Croatia
Thought to be joining the EU this year, Croatia was sheltered from the world's financial issues and is a great up and coming place to buy property. It has picturesque backdrops and is often sunny, with white beaches and crystal clear waters. A great place to get away from the rat race.
If you are thinking of buying a second home then make sure that you have a Home Insurance policy.
