The Changing Face Of The Royal Academy Of Dance

The Royal Academy of Dance is the largest classical ballet examining organization in the world. In just about every country in the world you will find an RAD teacher. If you are lucky enough to have a teaching qualification through the Royal Academy of Dance you should be able to find work anywhere in the world.Over the past decade the RAD has strengthened and grown thanks to Luke Rittner whose marketing skills have taken the RAD out of the crisis it was facing a decade ago. Over the past ten years there have been many changes, and these have been necessary for the survival of the RAD. Ballet needs to be more accessible to todays youngesters who have totally different needs to those of two decades ago.Luke Rittner was appointed chief executive on the 1st of September 1999. He is one of Britains most experienced art administrators and has served on many boards and has also run the famous bath festival. He was just the right person to take on challenge of making a better RAD for future generations to enjoy.Since his appointment, the RAD has improved the education of its teachers and members. The education methods used have included improvements to the teachers courses with teachers now being able to get degrees from the University of Durham. Correspondence courses are offered worldwide for aspiring young teachers as well as courses for teachers who want to further their education and obtain higher degrees.Over the past few years the RAD has constantly been improving on its syllabus, which in the long run both encourages and improves the training of young bodies of all shapes and sizes. The Pre School curriculum is a wonderful and exciting dancing program to educate the three to five year olds with creative music and wonderful training to improve the overall coordination and muscle development of the young child.Recently the Pre Primary and Primary syllabus was also given a revamp. The music was made more accessible to children of that age group and the dance steps are more creative and fun for children to do.The RAD also recently launched a new Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate syllabus. This is aimed to create dancers and not robots with the emphasis being on creativity and musicality, without doing away with any of the technical aspects of a classical dancers training. The candidate attempting these exams must have both good technique and sound musicality. The RAD has offices all over the world, and each area has a panel of teachers who work tirelessly in the name of the RAD to raise both awareness and host various workshops and fund raisers that all children can participate in.For the first time ever in 2011, South Africa will be hosing the prestigious Adeline Genee competition. Our mother city will be hosting this event and all the best dancers from all over the world will be competing for this honor. They say if you win the Adeline Genee Competition, your carreer is made as a dancer.
