San Francisco Dance Classes for Preschoolers

Introducing your preschooler to dance through San Francisco dance classes is a fantastic way to build healthy exercise habits, confidence, and friendships. By the time your preschooler is four or five, he'll be ready to start building coordination and balance skills and learning real dance moves. Dance classes for kids of this age can just be fun and entertaining, or they can start your child in a lifelong passion for creative movement. There are many different dance classes for preschoolers in San Francisco, but here are three you might want to check out for your child:

Pre-Ballet at City Ballet Dance School

If you think your child could someday learn to love dance with a passion, the City Ballet School on Otis Street is an excellent place to start dance classes. This serious ballet school will lead children all the way to professional dancing, if that's what they want when they're a bit older.

The pre-ballet class is a great start to a serious competitive dancing career, but that doesn't mean it isn't fun, too! Students aged four to six get to learn from professional ballet dancers. They dance to a live pianist, and often get to dance to songs they already love. This class focuses on the absolute basics, including helping students learn to listen to instructions. Students in this class will also learn a basic ballet vocabulary, which is important when they move up to more advanced classes later on.

Creative Movement for Pre-K at the YMCA

The YMCA of San Francisco offers a fun dance class for Pre-K students, too. This class doesn't focus on a single style of dance, but exposes students to all sorts of different types of music and movement. Students in this class will get to use fun costumes and props to bring their imaginations to life.

The Creative Movement class has a focus on getting kids ready for Kindergarten. Students learn to listen to instructions and to interact with other children their own age. They also start learning how to channel their physical energy into positive movements, an essential skill for school-age children! Kids also get to start learning choreography in the Creative Movement class. Choreography work builds concentration and memory, and it helps children work as part of a team.

Irish Dance with Ann Healy Irish Dance Studio

Irish dance is vigorous and active. It's a great form of exercise, and it can expose your preschooler more deeply to another culture. The Ann Healy Irish Dance Studio offers Irish dance classes in various locations around the Bay Area, some of which are in San Francisco.

Irish dance focuses on group dance much of the time, so your preschooler can learn to move along with others on the same team. This unique form of dance also helps students build coordination and balance, and it can really help your preschooler work out some energy!

The Healy Irish Dance Studio has had many dance teams go on to place in local and national Irish dance competitions. Get your preschooler started in Irish dance, and she may be able to go far as a competitive dancer later on!
