One of these colors is violet. We associate the color with religion and spirituality. It is, therefore, not a popular color for interiors, unless they are extremely extravagant. This is not the only reason that it is rarely used in its full saturation for wall painting. Violet is the darkest color within the color circle. It is only approximately two shades lighter than black. Consequently it would make a room look very dark.
Violet has, however, beautifully composed, lighter shades that add a sense of peace and relaxation to a room. Lavender is a lighter shade of violet. It is warmer than blue and consequently gives a room a more emotional feeling. Because this color reflects, as the deeper violet, a sense of the unknown, of a spiritual domain, there is always a connotation of dignity around it. It is an ideal color to use for therapeutic types of work. It is also an excellent hue to use for offices that need to support intellectual creativity. All shades of violet have an inward pulling movement and help to become much more focused. This is a reason why they are used for places of meditation.
In the home, the lighter shades of violet are excellent for bedrooms because of their relaxing properties. They are perfect for creating a charming and romantic ambient. There are so many lighter shades of violet, some leaning more to blue, others to purple, that it can be an enjoyable task to mix and match stripes and florals in all of these hues. The pattern-mix will create excitement to the total look. However, because violet is such a concentrated color, the total affect will always remain peaceful and serene.
