4 Mistakes New Marketers Need To Know About

Every time a new product is launched, the majority of these products claim to deliver nearly unbelievable results. The copywriting is superb though, and that right there is the downfall for so many new people to IM. Heck, even people that have been at the game for awhile still find themselves purchasing course after course. Many of these courses and info products come wrapped in a shiny package with some message that says something along the lines of; in only twenty minutes a day, and by following the exact method we are about to show you, you too will become a millionaire and be sitting on the beaches in Maui, sipping on an iced tea in less than a month.

Obviously I exaggerated that somewhat, because there are actually quite a lot of great courses that will show you how to do everything from finding quality backlinks to building an empire with Google AdSense to dominating the search engines with your Amazon affiliate sites. The trouble comes when you don't know who to trust, so you have to rely on trial and error to figure out what products can deliver on their claims.

Learn the very basics of internet marketing and don't over complicate things. Stick with one site until it is making money before moving on to the next thing. They say making your first dollar is the hardest part; after that it is simply building on that and replicating what brought you that first dollar.

If you put an offer out to people, and you can get traffic then you will eventually get a sale. Without these two things, you won't have an income. That is internet marketing in its most basic form.

Thinking IM is a Get Rich Quick Scheme

Make sure you clear this thought out of your head as soon as possible, because chances are you are not going to suddenly wake up and find thousands of dollars that have been transferred to your back account from PayPal. You need to build this business just like any other business, it's just that this business has the benefit of being relatively cheap and the doors are open for just about anyone that wants to jump in.

There is plenty of room for everyone on the web, because it has virtually pervaded every aspect of our lives. This makes available opportunities for anyone that wants to jump in and try out their hand at making an income online, but this also means that there can be tremendous competition in certain areas. If you are new, you may be thinking you want to try and jump into a niche like the acne niche, or the weight-loss niche because it seems like lots and lost of people search for these terms each month.

This is true, but I wouldn't recommend it at all. The competition is cut-throat and you probably won't have much of a chance, especially if you are just starting out with internet marketing. You will be trying to compete with sites that have authority in Google's eyes, and have tons of backlinks to their domains. All of this takes time.

So if you want to be in this for the long haul, you need to realize that you will have to put as much effort into succeeding as you can. It is actually going to take a large amount of effort and hours of time spent online either marketing your website, or adding content and syndicating that content. If you learn this and accept it, you will have a much better mindset to keep going even during those times of frustration.

Becoming Impatient

This is a problem that many people face at one time or another, and some to more of a degree than others. It also opens the door for people to take shortcuts, especially for the new marketers. Shortcuts should be avoided, because they won't do anything to help you in the long run. They might provide a temporary gain, but Google isn't stupid and they catch on to tricks quite quickly.

Simply deliver quality content over and over again along with solid on page SEO and continued backlink development is what will ultimately bring you success that will last for years to come. Don't forget to always seek out opportunities to team up with other internet marketers if you get the chance. Building relationships is paramount in this business. Not only will these relationships help you stay on track, they also push you to constantly improve yourself.

Out of everything I am talking about here, being impatient is probably the one thing I struggle with the most. In the beginning I had to deal with information overload just like everyone else, but overtime, things started to fall into place and make sense. If it was up to me, I would pay for articles with a turn around time of instant!

Not Staying Focused

Internet marketing forums are great, especially when you are new and trying to figure everything out. But they also can present a problem to your growth if you spend all day scanning the forums, instead of adding content to your websites. This actually encompasses more than just reading forums. Watch yourself because it will become all too easy to get suckered into watching videos on YouTube or constantly checking your email to see if anyone sent you some mail. Before you know it, it is two hours later and you won't have anything to show for it.

The hardest part of internet marketing is in the beginning. You probably haven't seen any results, but this is the time where it is absolutely important that you keep writing content and promoting your website. You might find yourself working twelve hours a day or more. This can be good and bad. On one hand, you definitely don't want to be skimping yourself out of seeing results by not working as long as you should be to grow your business, but on the other hand you could very well limit your productivity by actually working too many hours. So it is a trade-off between working too few hours and not getting much done, and working too many hours which will probably result in lack of focus and doing nothing productive.

This is an all too common problem that effects even seasoned marketers from time to time. Usually you won't even notice that you have been day dreaming or wasting your time until you take your eyes from the computer screen to check the clock and suddenly three hours have gone by. If you are aware that you have this problem then you can take steps to avoid it. Possibly, and this is a good idea no matter what, is you should write down a schedule of activity that you have to accomplish each time you sit down at your computer. Sort of like a daily planner, which is a good way to help you stay focused.

Sitting down to work without a straightforward plan in front of you will make it far easier to lose focus and start wandering around the internet looking for lessons or pictures of shiny things that go boom in the.... er wait what was I talking about?
