How to Cure Sciatica Pain - Naturally at Home

If a person has experienced sciatica pain, there is almost nothing he/she will not do to see that it goes at the earliest. Apart from being a totally discomforting condition, sciatica brings with it a numb, tingling pain in the lower back, where the sciatic nerve originates. This can even radiate into the thighs, and back of the leg, since these are the areas served by this nerve. Thus there is every chance of being immobilized by this debilitating condition.

However, it is possible to cure Sciatica Pain by simple home treatment.

One must first try to understand how the condition is brought about, so that the principles underlying the treatment can be followed more easily. The sciatic nerve is prone to injury whenever a herniated disc protrudes on to it, or the spinal canal begins to narrow, or there is a tightening of the muscles in the thigh and buttocks. This is sought to be rectified by some form of movement, i.e. stretching or flexing, as a result of which, the pressure on the nerve gets released, and the pain is consequently relieved. This is achieved by doing simple exercises specially prescribed for sciatica. There are also other methods of alleviating the pain. Homeopathy can also be tried out, the medications being safe to use, and without side-effects. Some of the methods of easing the pain are as under:

Exercises to Relieve Pain and strengthen the muscles of the back and abdomen:

a) Stand with your right foot crossed over the left, knees straight.

Bend from the waist, and touch the right knee with the forehead.

Hold the position for 5 seconds, relax, repeat with the other leg.

b) Sit with the unaffected leg stretched straight out in front of you.

Bring the ankle of the affected leg up towards your chest. Hold for

5 seconds, and repeat 5 times, each time, holding the position for a

little longer.

One may also try relieving the pain with various herbal remedies:

Garlic milk (2 cloves of garlic crushed into half a cup of milk taken daily) will reduce any inflammation, and soothe the injured nerve. Garlic in any other form works equally well.

The juice of celery leaves mixed with potato juice, 10 oz of which if taken daily, will also work towards relieving the pain from sciatica. Elderberry juice can also be tried.

Vitamin B1 supplements or foods containing this vitamin, are good for strengthening the nerves. Bananas, green leafy vegetables, beans, nuts and lentils, pork, beef, and liver are good inclusions in the diet.

As can be seen, a little care and concentration will bring about significant improvement in the condition, and anyone who follows the above remedies, would surely benefit from them.
