The Checkerboard Coaching Technique sm and the Key to Winning the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2011'
The key to winning the Stanley Cup this year is very different than in any other year in history. The key to winning the Stanley Cup in 2011' is to be a team that recognizes this. Why is it different this year you ask? For one thing the Board of Govenors met this spring and realize that the penalties must be called and since that meeting my guess is game ejections and penalties are both up. No more violent hits to key players or any player in the league.
That offers the players the freedom to move a little easier and puts the breaks on any player or team that thinks it is the same old game in 2011'. Seven or eight penalties to one team will cost them the series, if it happens game after game.
The other dynamic is face book and twitter and you tube and the access they all offer to instant information. The great play from the evening before, that resulted in a goal is availalble on you tube so everyone can view the thrill of the game. At the same time every team in the league is aware of the play too and how to stop it. In the bad old days a player would simply be taken out by a goon. Crush him, concuss him, legal or illegal hits were good. Just stop him from doing his thing.
In Stanley Cup Race 2011' it appears the penalties will be called and dealt with severly. The one legal hit that is the cause of a lot of the injuries is the open ice hit. I suspect they will be watched closely as well, because there are plenty of reasons to call a penality on those as well. With the birth of the age of the Smart Phone, a new NHL is emerging to let the great part of the talent in each player be highlighted not destroyed. Every player can mimic every great play they view the night before. As they go to the rink they can watch it on their i pad in slow motion just to be sure they have it all.
As the players tweet to their girl friends on the way to the rink, the girl friends are sending videos to them of them scoring from a week ago, each player is connected. The players are smarter as a result and they can react in a day, and sometimes in a shift. The key to winning the Stanley Cup in 2011' will be the team that scores the most unintendedgoals. It means shoot in traffic, don't wait, shoot toward the goal from every angle. If you can swing your stick hard enough to have the puck go to the net with speed and direct intent, shoot. A pro hockey player can have a wrist shot on less than 4 inches of ice space. Shoot. If any goalie has to face sixty to seventy shots on goal a night, that's only one a minute, how strong can he stay? If a percentage are from extream angles then what? The goalies will be trapping the puck, holding on, in an attempt to slow the game down. The thought has to be stay on task, shoot low, be ready for the rebound. If any team does that, they win it all.
