Back to when AOL McAfee was a free subscription for all AOL members, we barely gave it a thought and it's almost like we took it for granted. Internet security and protection against malicious software were things we didn't give much thought about. We even didn't realize if we had any intrusion attempts whatsoever. A friend told me about how he vaguely remembered back in those days, a warning window message about some alert on virus detected and what to do with it by the AOL McAfee Suite. But he honestly admitted that he never had realized what would really happened hadn't he had the program installed on his system. But all that is in the past.
Be it a dispute over profit sharing, be it some matters on traffic drive, or probably branding issues were in there, we don't know. Being only users and no more, we were destined to take it or leave it. Or weren't we? Nevertheless, we did come to conclusion and a half-hearted acceptance, as normally any human being would, to the realization of having to finally buy the security that we once didn't think we need up until now. Some of us just come to our senses, after some grueling nuisance with viruses and Trojans, that we did actually need that protection.
Pay for internet security? Okay, that's another story.
Common sense is that we would think twice, paying for a product where we know exactly that there are many good or even better competitors of. After all we were disappointed and looking for alternatives other than the one we were disappointed about. But one thing we need to keep in mind, taking actions based on disappointment alone, can be as bad as taking measures only to make it even with the products we're disappointed about.
The best and wise thing to do is that we need to fit our needs on protection online with a security suite that is just right. Not too tight, not too loose. Not too sophisticated yet not too simple. We have to do a little research, trial and error if you would. Anything but ignorance will do. So, some of us might be better off with AOL McAfee although he / she might have to pay for it, and others might be otherwise, depending on their internet behavior, internet usage, and lastly but surely not least, on their knowledge and experience.
