Music is one of the most common interests to people throughout the world, in every country you visits there's always a love for music in some form or another. It comes in many different forms and is enjoyed and expressed completely differently from country to country. Whether it is the chart hits that are widely follow in western society or Indian bangra music which is enjoyed through out India and other Asian countries.
There is of course one thing that all different types of music have in common, and that's the fact they all require some form of instrument in order to be played and enjoyed. Having attempted to learn a number of instruments, sometimes failing and sometimes exceeding I am interested in trying to identify what is the easiest instrument to learn and most fitting instrument to learn for someone of my age ( early 20's).
Of course if I was to simply attempt to identify the easiest instrument to learn it wouldn't take me long to pick out the triangle or spoons as being pretty straight forward. However I, like most people am looking for something I can at least string a tune together on. As I'm young, one of the prerequisites of my instrument choice is of course going to be social benefit. I'd be lying if I said I didn't like the idea of impressing some of my friends and family, so an instrument that is regarded as being cool is going to top the list (Vain I know). So after a long debate over my possible options I whittled it down to the guitar.

So now you've got an idea of how I came to choose to learn the guitar, however what's really is important to anyone reading this article is how I went about learning it. Being a student I decided to start of by attempting the free route, I started off by using some free online resources such as YouTube for tips and Tab Planet to get some guitar riffs. Sadly like most things that are free, although they offered a means to getting me started, my technique suffered and my depth of knowledge was pretty none existent to say the least.
Although I had managed to get a few REM and Oasis tunes under my belt they were all pretty simple and it had taken me way to long to learn them for my liking. As I'm a huge Jimi Hendrix fan I'd set my hopes high, and it didn't take me long to ask for some advice from one of my house mates who had been playing the guitar for 10 years. He had a look at what I'd been up to and soon told me that I really needed to look at getting some kind of tuition if I wanted to get past the basics.
So in the end, after much deliberation I decided I was going to have to fork out some money to get some kind of tuition. I didn't fancy getting actual lessons as these would be way too expensive and I still liked the idea of learning at my own pace. So I decided to have a look into some online tuition, I wanted to have a lot of material that could give me a good structure and direction in my learning. After a fair bit of research I came across an online course which gave loads of material and great direction on how to use it, as it wasn't to expensive It was an outright winner. There something really cool about multi-media learning online with the use of video, sound, words and pictures all culminating in a complete learning package. The best bit for me was the ability to learn whenever it suited my hectic college lifestyle.
To cut a long story short it's really helped me learn the guitar and my technique has improved leaps and bounds.
