The natural appeal of Velingrad

There are around 100 Velingrad hotels giving plenty of options for most purposes of visit. At the top end of the scale are the luxury hotels, which like those found elsewhere will have a full range of business and leisure facilities set within superb, stylish environments. The finest dining restaurants and exquisite lounge spaces are defining factors in such illustrious establishments and guest rooms and suites will have the usual refinements such as 24 hour room service, climate control and amenities for business, pleasure and entertainment. Hotel leisure facilities will reflect the health, fitness and health ethos of the town itself, through features such as swimming pools, gyms, spa baths and the like.

There are five main thermal and mineral deposits, at Kostandovo, Rakitovo, Chepino, Kamenitsa, and Ladzhene and between them spring 9000 litres of water per minute. As a further natural attraction the town has the largest Karst spring in Bulgaria, a geological bedrock formation which discharges 1200 litres of ice-cold water every second. People certainly place their faith on the health-giving properties of the climate and springs of Velingrad but many just come for the visual appeal of the incredible natural environment, which in itself is a sure enhancement for health and well being. Whatever the reason for visiting, any stay is made all the more special by the hospitality on offer within the Velingrad hotels.

There are historic and cultural attractions to be had too the town, a place which has been settled in for many centuries. It is the administrative region of the wider Velingrad Municipality and home to many cultural events and contemporary leisure attractions. Many of these will take place within the town's three Chitalishtes, which are charming and historic multipurpose public buildings found throughout Bulgaria. The Central Chitalishte is home to the most famous local cultural attraction which is the Velingrad Orchestra, a youth orchestra led by Dimitar Mechev which has performed and competed throughout Europe and won several international awards.

There are other resorts of course, in Bulgaria and throughout the world but few can boast the range of composition and sources of mineral water found in and around Velingrad. There are over 70 sources of healthy natural water available from both springs and wells and they cover a wide range of temperatures, of mineral composition, fluorine, radon, and silicic acid, all of which form the basis for a full range of preventive and curative treatments. The concept of taking natural spa and spring waters for their health benefits dates back 1000s of years and is alive and well today in Velingrad.
