Never in the history of films has a star sibling risen to a status of a mega star in a short period of time as has Kareena Kapoor. Even as a 10-year-old, when Beboo (as she's fondly called) tried on wigs and new shades of lipsticks in her sister Karisma's make-up room, everyone knew that she would eventually join movies. But even her mother Babita, who has an iron hand over her daughters, could not foretell the extent of her success.
The first unconventional step she took was by signing Refugee immediately after rejecting Rakesh Roshan's Kaho Naa Pyar Hai. Minor differences led to her walking out of the project, and wisely so, since the film did nothing for its heroine Amisha Patel. Refugee was a perfect launch for Kareena, who with her ethereal looks managed to carve a niche for herself as a performing actress as opposed to a glamour doll.

In 2003 Kareena's Chameli released in which her performance is being noticed. She got Stardust special award for Chameli.
