What is a Linksys Router?
It is one of the most popular brands of home routers today. Cisco is the manufacturer of this famous brand. They come in the form of:
? DSL routers
? Wireless routers
? Cable routers
These routers are very easy to set up as most of them have plug n' play features. So even inexperienced users can install them.
Keep in mind that there are different models for Linksys routers. However, the general design when it comes to set up are almost the same.
Step 1 - If you have a wireless router, attach the antenna to the router.
Step 2 - Plug in the Ethernet cable from the modem of your broadband Internet provider and put it in the port that is labeled "WAN" or "Internet" on the router. These are located at the back portion of the router.
Step 3 - Plug in another Ethernet cable in one of the ports available. These are numbered as 1 to 4 or more.
Step 4 - Plug in the other end of the cable into the Ethernet port on your computer.
Configuring your Linksys Router
The next thing you need to do would be to configure the router. You don't need to worry because these routers come with a Set up Wizard. This Wizard will make the configuration task very easy for you. Just follow the instructions.
Logging in to the Linksys Router
When you get past the log in screen, you now have access to a number of configuration options. Don't be alarmed because the router has default settings which will still enable it to work right even if worse environments. Just choose the configurations that you prefer.
For wireless routers, it is best to consider SSID for you and WEP for the wireless traffic.
To set up a DSL ISP to a Linksys router all you need to do is to:
? Enter the URL 192.168.1.1 into your web browser.
? When the web browser page appears, look for "Local IP Address".
? When you find it, change it to "192.168.2.1" and click "Save Settings".
? Renew the IP Address of your PC by going to Command Prompt, click Start then Run Command. Put cmd. Press enter. Then type ipconfig/release. Press enter. Once the IP Address pops up a 0.0.0.0, type ipconfig/renew. Press enter. The new IP Address will show up.
? Access the web-based set up page of the router by keying in 192.168.2.1 in the web browser's URL.
? Click "Status" when the web page appears. Check if the IP Address has numbers or still 0's.
? Connect to the Internet if there are numbers.
? If there are 0's, click "IP Address Release" or "DHCP Release". Click "IP Address Renew" or "DHCP Renew"
? Click "Status". It should display Connected. If not, click "Connect".
