Do Local Directories Work Better Than General Directories?

These days, lots of people are talking about local directories and their impact on web business listed with them. For some people, general web directories don't seem to cut it anymore - as they are often seen as a waste of time and resources.

However, general directories are still relevant and those who think that they are a waste of time are clearly expressions their own opinions. Local directories however, are also relevant and really good for those who know how to take advantage of them.

Generating Traffic

First local directories are great sources for generating targeted website and offline traffic. This is because people can look up your business in a local directory and walk into your office to make enquiries about your business and probably buy your products and services. The traffic and business typically comes from local resident or those within your vicinity.

Effective for SEO

If you're trying to rank for local keywords e.g. paint shop in Nevada, using local directories can get you ranked really quick considering that they are more integrated into and primed for the google maps and places placements or listings. Therefore, once people search for keywords that are related to your terms, your website will rank for the keyword.

Better Categories

Unlike in many directories, your website will be placed in the right categories and sub categories. For instance, in most general directories, you will often find general categories like weight loss and maybe a sub category for fitness.

But in local directories, the categories are deeper and more specific. So, for the weight loss for example, you will often find cub categories like fitness, ab workout, tummy reduction and so on.

Visible Links and Web Address

Most general directories have too many links, websites and listing, thus reducing the chances of your website getting any visibility. Most times, website links are not visible in the first few pages because of the huge number of submissions and approvals.

Not just that, the search engine spiders may not crawl that deep into the pages this is still being debated- thus reducing the chances of getting your website shown in the top 10 ranking positions. However, the link juice will still be passed on.
