Is Coffee Unhealthy? Think Again!
Is Coffee Unhealthy? Think Again!

People have gone as far as attributing economic success and efficiency to what has been dubbed the "lifeblood" of America: coffee. When the world wakes up in the morning the number one choice of drink is coffee. With the increasing popularity of coffee the question of the health benefits of coffee have not been adequately addressed in today's media. Consumers would do well to educate themselves as to the few but important benefits available so they can know what they are ingesting as well as how it is manifested in their bodies.

When taking a poll of coffee drinkers the number one reason why people choose this beverage is the increased mental awareness coupled with a new found feeling of being energized after drinking one or 2 cups. Every morning we all struggle to slowly wake up and be productive. Our bodies and our minds are still semi-asleep, at least for a short time until we can provide some sort of stimulation to change this state of sleepiness. Waking up in the morning is often more difficult on certain days as the body just seems not capable of fully waking up. Caffeine certainly helps to get a person more energized and mentally focused, especially after drinking a couple cups of coffee. One's physical reaction time and mental acuity are significantly improved. Over a period of time one becomes conditioned to the physiological need for caffeine in order to start their day.

Alzheimer's disease prevention is an additional health benefits of coffee that is currently being explored by the medical community. With Alzheimer's being unable to affect the brain of a coffee drinker as readily as a non-coffee drinker (my theory) is that there must be some direct correlation between this magical brew and these very interesting Alzheimer's results. By becoming mentally active in conjunction with coffee consumption the stimulated brain can better combat the looming disease of Alzheimer's. Truly outstanding news for those of us who prefer a tasty coffee beverage as opposed to knitting.

One more health benefit resulting from coffee is that it aids in bowel movements and digestion. Due to weekend colon muscles as we age we become more exposed to potential cancerous growths in our colon. Prolonged caffeine consumption has been proven to help prevent cancer of the colon as well as aid in the bodies ability to digest food.

As the research behind the health benefits of coffee continues it can't be helped but to think that even the most staunch anti-coffee proponents will someday take up drinking the beverage. With this new found knowledge that coffee is actually good for you perhaps more people will take up drinking the brew only time will tell.
