Only four months into our marriage, it's still not too soon for me to consider anniversary presents for my lovely wife. Roses are just too predictable, and I already gave them to her for the wedding, so being someone who plans everything, I'm starting to think about any possible great gifts.
What should I get my wife for our anniversary? A free calendar from work contained a list of anniversary gifts, listed by the length of the marriage. According to the calendar's list, the traditional gift was paper, while the more recent gift indicated was clocks. Since I am something of a traditionalist, does that mean I should get a paper clock for my wife?
But what about next year? China? Cotton? Leather? The list goes on and on. If you talk to florists they would be the first ones to tell you that nothing says "happy anniversary" like a dozen long stem roses, that no doubt, cost them pennies to your $150.
There are no wedding gifts listed for anniversaries between the fifteenth and the twentieth. Why not? What makes a good 18th anniversary gift? By that time, the magic of marriage has faded quite a bit, leaving you with the dreaded "practical gift" as the most likely choice.
There are pluses and minuses to the dreaded "practical gift." Expensive jewelry is more likely to get a romantic response from your wife than a pragmatic case of light bulbs or a dozen replacement mop heads, but at least the practical gifts, as embarrassing as they may be to fancy up with bows and fancy paper, at least say to the wife that you do understand some of the stuff she really needs.
Or if you're out of money, and time, you can always belly up to the free sticky notes available at your office and make the "love coupons." This coupon is good for one... fill in the blank here, back rubs and doing the dishes are two popular choices. This is the romantic equivalent to the "practical gift." It shows you but at least some thought into her gift and most women like that.
With luck, you now have a few ways to treat your sweetheart well. As for myself, while I have any number of things I could get my wife for our anniversary, I know that she loves roses, so that's what she will get.
