subject: Review: Samsung S5150 Diva [print this page]

Samsung has just released 2 phones in their new Diva series; the Samsung S7070 and the Samsung S5150. The S7070 is a resistive touch screen phone made for women who have the time to whip out a stylus. The S5150 is a more conservative clamshell phone that focuses even more on style than the S7070. Now, the big factor when it comes to phones for women is that the designs tend to be either really sexy or just gaudy. Fortunately, the Samsung S5150 Diva is a successfully sexy phone. When the device is closed, it looks like a very glamorous compact; flip it open and it turns into a sweet and sexy little gadget. While this phone lacks the utter sultriness and appeal of the BL20 Chocolate, it has its own aesthetic merits. Engineered for Females Of course, the physical qualities of this phone alone do not make it a real womens handset. In fact, like any lady, the real beauty of this phone is hidden within. Samsung has really taken into consideration the needs of women by putting in the etiquette mode and fake calls functions. The etiquette mode is the perfect answer to those times when you have to switch your phone to silent but you cannot afford to fish it out of your bag or purse. Imagine being in a lunch meeting with a client and you realize that you left your phone on load-travel mode. While it would be perfectly normal to excuse ones self, there are times when you are with people who would take offense at the slightest interruption. With other devices, it is hard to switch to silent mode since the menus have to be navigated blindly. Etiquette mode allows for an instant switch to silent without any worries. On the other end of the spectrum is the face calls feature of the device. Often, women find themselves obliged to attend or partake in events and activities that they would otherwise not go to. When saying no outright would be impolite and coming up with a random excuse would be too obvious, the fake calls feature will allow any lady to create their own emergency or urgent errand. It is also a perfect way out for really bad blind dates. Wish List Another new feature in this phone is the Wish List. Information regarding this application is a little scarce, but we predict that this feature is more than just a simple list, but rather a compilation of items that is either viewable by other contacts or is linked to online stores to check for prices and availability. Hardware The Samsung S5150 Diva comes with a 2.2 inch TFT screen with 16 million color display capacity and a screen resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. You can view images, websites and play videos on the screen without much loss of detail. Images shot with the phones 3.15 mega pixel camera appear very nicely on the screen too. Aside from the taking images, the camera is also capable of QVGA video recording. The battery on this phone is an 800 mAh lithium-ion battery that enables users to stay on a call for 7 hours straight. On a full charge, the device will last for 470 hours on standby.
