The wonderful city of carmona

A spectacular city

Carmona is one of the most beautiful small towns in Spain; it is a very picturesque one, as it is situated on the top of a hill that overlooks a green, fertile plain. The symbol of Carmona is its tower, built to resemble the La Giralda Tower in Seville; in fact, it is this tower that you focus on when you first step on the streets of the town. The similarity with Seville does not stop here; Seville and Carmona are two neighboring cities that are situated very close to each other so even their history is very similar. Carmona, just like Seville, was a city of great importance for the Romans, but also a city that raised the interest of the Moors. It was a common thing during the rule of the Moors for Carmona to be ruled by the brother of the person who ruled Seville.

Sightseeing in Carmona

The history of the town was a very troubled one, but this same history made it look like it does today. Sightseeing starts with the entrance to the town, the Seville Gate, which used to be a very grand and imposing one. Now tourists can visit its ruins and imagine what it looked like when it was living its greatest days. The Seville Gate is also the one that leads the visitors to the most important part of Carmona; its historic area. The narrow and cobbled streets hide Renaissance mansions, but they also hide outstanding Mudejar Churches. The San Fernando Square is very easy to reach and it deserves the attention of tourists because it is a place where you can enjoy the beauty of the Moorish architectural style.

Somewhere to the east sits the Santa Maria Church, a Gothic construction which still has a very elegant patio where you can relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. Pedro's Palace should also be on your sightseeing list; even though you will only find the ruins now, as the palace was destroyed in the 16th century by an earthquake, you can still create a picture in your mind of how the palace used to be. Carmona is a town for those who love history, people who enjoy finding out new things regarding the past of the places they visit. However, even if you are not so mad about history, there still are many things for you to do at villa blanes in the beautiful city of Carmona.
