Fat Criticism: A Repressive Social Stigma

In the age of the size zero where petite divas reign supreme, most of us aren't happy with our appearances when we cast a reflection in the mirror. This negative projection of our psyche possibly stems from a very low level of self esteem and confidence. Not being comfortable in your own skin and accepting your inequities could leave a detrimental effect on your psyche. Most of us just keep wondering as to how did are bodies end up in such a sorry state. Lack in self confidence levels lead to others making you a victim of fat criticism.

A lot of us can relate to fat criticism, dating far back to our high school days. How many times have you heard someone ridicule you because of your weight? The sheer persecution and victimization you've had to undergo all because you were slightly overweight and did not conform to other people's standards of beauty and perfection. Fat criticism can be a humiliating social stigma to endure.

Losing hope or not even attempting to change your obese condition is the best example of self fat criticism. Eating healthy and exercising is a must and parents should encourage children to do so. Healthy habits are best developed at a tender age. Eating healthy is also something that is not so well followed. Adopting a healthy lifestyle which includes a healthy diet and adequate exercise is the best way to prevent you from being a victim of obesity. Besides, being thin and malnourished is not good by any chance; being fit and active would be the best option.

The problem with fat criticism is that it leads to demoralization and low self esteem which makes the person an utter failure in his personal life. Often we go on diets and exercise regimes and still have that negative thought that we won't lose weight.

Fat criticism is something that should not be done even as a joke, because you never know how adversely it could affect a particular individual. People who have been victims of major fat criticism have been known to suffer from high blood pressure and major mood changes also known as mood swings', and in worse cases, insanity and even suicides have also been reported.

Victims of fat criticism must learn from their past experiences and strive towards a change in their lives. A positive attitude must be inculcated not only towards the fat critics but also towards the food habits and lifestyle. If one does not succumb to the pressures of fat criticism, no one can demoralize him. All it takes is determination, hard work and a positive attitude to see you through. There are some people who are overweight because they suffer from certain medical conditions and unfortunately they end up becoming victims of fat criticism. People must be aware of an individual's problem and help them and or guide them to the best possible solution, instead of indulging in ridiculing and humiliating them. It is important to empathize with people who are overweight and encourage them to make healthier choices in their lives.
