With the Cricket World Cup 2011 now in full swing, we have had a look at the most common injuries to occur in previous World Cup tournaments. This makes for interesting reading, especially when you look at how many top players have already been affected by these common injuries! Take a look at our check list below!
Hamstring Strain

Medial Collateral Ligament

Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL)

Ankle Sprains
Injury to theankle ligamentsis so common that it is rarely given the respect it deserves.
Meniscus (Cartilage) Injury
Torn cartilage or meniscusis an injury usually caused by compression and rotation at the knee joint. It is often sustained during tackles, or sudden changes of direction. Although the severity of the injury varies considerably, it would be more than enough to end a players tournament.
Leg Fracture
Fracturesto any of the bones in the leg, typically the Tibia or Fibula, can occur as a result of a high impact tackle.
Calf Injury
Injuries to the calf muscles, sustained from soccer, usually involve either acalf strainor acontusion. A strain may occur from a sudden burst of speed or change in direction and a contusion is the result of a direct impact to the calf muscles.
Achilles Tendon Rupture
Atear or rupture to the achilles tendonis a severe injury which could see a player out of action for up to 6 months.
