Ad ay in the life of a trainee royal marine. Why I love sleepless nights, beasting cardio workouts and self doubt. I'm definitely far mentaklly stronger for all the experiences. Prior tpo deciding to join the marineds I was performing gruelling workouts by having Personal Training with a Cardiff Personal Trainer for 1 hour and then having one hourt with Cardiff Kettlebell Bootcamp. Both these sessions were very tough and my calorie expenditure would be so high!!
I have ealised that the instructors have and were quickly breaking us for the 3rd tinme in 2 days; they decided to enough was enough and took back to the camp. We had some time to sort ourselves out and then left for what we thought was going to be our lovely 6mile load carry.
I really wasn't looking forward to this as I felt really drained of energy and with in minutes of setting off I was regretting being there. Luckily though it was only a quick yomp to an observation stance where we had a lesson on map reading. I started to psyche myself up for the load carry which was pending and started getting all sorts of energy food down my neck (leaving my jelly babies for the load carry). The lesson was over and we walked a short distance to clearing, where we got ready.
I was now up for this and ready to go. It is mad how when you are really fit a 30 minute period of rest allows you to recover and prepare for another tough workout. I suppose this is where all my prepartion before hand had paid off, I was in great physical shape and the fittest I have ever been in my life.
The load carry starts cross country and then ends on a road. We had only done it once before and that time I was OK, but had shredded my feet. This time I was prepared but quickly into it I started to get aches in my shoulder I couldn't shift. We were going at quite a pace and being forced to keep in step with the person in front, which I couldn't do.
