How to Know When You're Ready to Date
How to Know When You're Ready to Date

Everyone wants to meet that someone special, someone who can give their life meaning and purpose. It doesn't matter who you are or how old you are. You could be at High school or you could be coming out of a messy divorce, you need you know when you're ready to date. Now you could just go out and hitch up with the first person that comes along. On the other hand, if you are looking for someone special, then you need to look a little deeper.

Why do you want to date? Are you looking for companionship, a one night stand, or is it because you feel left out? If you are uncertain as to your motivations, then perhaps you need to question if you're ready to date. Is this a High school romance, do you think that it could be something special, or are you on a rebound date?

Are you happy and confident with who you are? When you meet somebody, the person that they fall in love with is the person that they meet, so don't try be someone you are not, it can only lead to heartache. Be happy with who you are, and when you meet someone, they will fall in love with who you are.

Are you bringing baggage with you. Everyone has their own personal histories. Because you have had problems with previous partners it does not mean that the next will be the same. If you have just gone through a break up or a divorce, you need to make sure that you have your emotions under control because if you date to soon, you could bring unresolved issues to the date, and it could be a nightmare. If you have a negative experience on a rebound date it could sour your perception on dates and relationship for a long time to come. Whatever your situation, do not push yourself into something that you are not emotionally prepared to deal with.

Just because you are lonely, are just because everyone has a partner, it does not mean that you need one to. If you want to date just for the sake of dating, then you're not ready to date! If you're ready to date then you can wait until you find the right person. Going with the first person who comes along will not bring you happiness.

Do you know what you're looking for in a partner? Or is it a case that if someone looks good then who cares? If you want a successful relationship with someone then it helps to have something in common, such as shared interests. Having something in common gives you more of a bond which you can develop over time. Wait until you find someone worth asking out. Wouldn't it be a nightmare if the unattached person of your dreams came by, and you were already involved with a second best.

You deserve to be happy, and being with someone who is not right for you will not bring you happiness. If anything you could be in for arguments, resentment, and a lot of wasted time.

Let's say that you find your dream date and you start dating. Do you have realistic expectations for the relationship. I think that far to many people seem to believe, that what they see in the movies or on the T.V is real, they forget that it's a story, it's all make-believe. You have to accept who you are, who your with, and your situation and make the best of life as you experience it. Don't live a world of fantasy, don't try to make your relationship something that it's not, accept it for what it is, and try to build the best relationship possible.

Do you have these visions of what your partner will look like? If they are not what you expect, will you try mould them into your vision of perfection? You know that you're ready to date when you can accept someone for who they are. When you first meet and the sparks fly, and cupid shoots you with a little arrow you will enter the honeymoon period. During the honeymoon period you will be on an emotional high, all you will think is your partner and how wonderful they are, and all you will want to do is to be together. During this time you might notice some imperfections, but you can ignore these because you are so much in love. When you return to the real world, any imperfections will become all to apparent. Whilst your partner might have some habits that they can be guided away from, can you accept them faults and all or will you feel compelled to change them? The person that you fell in love with is the person with the imperfections, if you change that person then they are no longer the person you fell in love with, will you still love them? And don't forget, you might not be so perfect yourself.

How to know when you're ready to date. If you are looking for someone you can share your life with, if you're looking for someone you can be with because of who they are, if you are looking to be with because you want to be with them, then you're ready to date.
