Top 5 Free Android Apps Download

Just having a new Android phone? Maybe a new HTC Incredible Droid or Evo? You've gotten the good screens, font options, just the way you want them ... but now you have a few Android apps to make it even better? And free apps are better than the ones you pay for, right?

I have compiled here a list of my Top 5 Android Apps (the free apps category) that you need to download onto your phone before you do something else. Without further ado ...

1. Bar Code Scanner - This app is a deceptively simple name, huh? It is soooo powerful, though. You start the app and point to any type of barcode, whether the barcode on the back of your Mountain Dew 20oz or one of those funny looking new QR Codes that start popping up everywhere, and the free app does the rest! I just scanned a bottle of water and CVS app connected me to the UPC database and found the exact number for me.

2. An E-Reader App - Which (! Or whatever) that you download is a matter of personal taste. For me, I want the best deal, so I downloaded all the majors: Barnes & Noble Nook Amazon's Kindle and Google Books app. This way I can read any format, get the maximum number of free ebooks, and even shop for the best price before I buy any.

3. V-Cast Song ID or Shazam - If you are a Verizon customer, your phone comes pre-installed the V Cast Song ID app. I use it for years on non-Android phones and it has never failed me. If you're not on Big Red, though, look for Shazam and you need the functionality equal to, if not get better than V-Cast Song ID. Both app, all you have to do is to switch to the app is close to a speaker, and wait for 10-20 seconds while holding the id's the song and even links to a download source or save for later so the title You can get it from Amazon or iTunes.

4. Advanced Task Killer - If you do not get this app, you charge your phone 3-4 times a day. Period. It kills all active processes (such as your camera or card apps) that you have accidentally left running in the background, so you can keep your battery life to maximize. Before I downloaded this app, I was literally recharge my droid Incredible said 3-4 times a day. Now I charge it once after lunch, when I was listening to music all morning.

5. Angry Birds / Angry Birds Seasons - What Android Apps list would be complete without mention of Rovio's Angry Birds? According to a Newsweek article published on January 30, 2011, Rovio is taking aim at Nintendo's Mario iconic status, with their avian ticked. This game is really more of a crack-like addiction than anything I have ever experienced, and I recommend it to anyone who own a smart phone, whether it's Android or Apple-based.
